Land reclamation project in Saemangeum is now completed
Despite a long lasting protest of nature conservationists for the protection of the world’s second largest tidal flat the land reclamation project in Saemangeum is now completed. According to the Korean Ministry of Environment the seawall at South Koreas west coast has been finished after 15 years and several delays. The construction of the 33 kilometers long dike at the yellow sea is considered to be one of the world’s large the land reclamation project.
Since 2003 the Lighthouse Foundation has funded the Project FASS - For a Sustainable Saemangeum. But also upon the seawall’s completion the local work continues.
